Since its establishment in 2010, this scholarship program has been recognizing and rewarding outstanding students in Nigerian public tertiary institutions. Through this initiative, MTN Foundation continues to invest in the future of Nigeria by providing financial aid to deserving students across three major scholarship categories:
1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS)
Launched in 2010, this scholarship is designed for 300-level students pursuing Science and Technology-related courses at Nigerian Public Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.
- Number of Scholarships Available: 300 students
- Annual Award Amount: ₦300,000
- Duration: Till graduation (as long as grade requirements are met)
2. MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS)
Introduced in 2012, this scholarship supports visually impaired students in Nigerian Public Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education. It is open to 200-level and 300-level blind students studying any course.
- Number of Scholarships Available: 100 students (previously 60, but increased from 2024)
- Annual Award Amount: ₦300,000 (previously ₦200,000)
- Duration: Till graduation (as long as grade requirements are met)
3. Top 10 UTME Scholarship
Since 2020, MTN Foundation has been awarding scholarships to the top 10 highest-scoring candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), as announced by JAMB.
- Who Qualifies? The 10 highest scorers in UTME, regardless of their course of study or institution (public or private)
- Annual Award Amount: ₦300,000 (increased from ₦200,000 in 2024)
- Duration: Till graduation (as long as grade requirements are met)
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for any of these scholarships, applicants must meet the following requirements:
MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) Eligibility
✔️ Must be a 300-level student studying a Science or Technology-related course in a Nigerian Public University, Polytechnic, or College of Education.
✔️ CGPA Requirements:
- Public Universities & Colleges of Education: Minimum CGPA of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (Second Class Upper).
- Public Polytechnics: Minimum CGPA of 3.0 (Upper Credit) in OND and must have secured admission into HND.
- Direct Entry Students: Must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (Upper Credit) in OND and must have gained admission into 300 level in a public university.
MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) Eligibility
✔️ Must be a 200 or 300-level blind student studying any course in a Public University, Polytechnic, or College of Education in Nigeria.
✔️ CGPA Requirements:
- Public Universities & Colleges of Education: Minimum CGPA of 2.5.
- Public Polytechnics: Minimum CGPA of 2.0 in OND and must have secured admission into HND.
✔️ Special Note for Blind Law Students: Since Law is a 5-year program, only 300-level blind students are eligible to apply.
Top 10 UTME Scholarship Eligibility
- Automatically awarded to the top 10 highest scorers in UTME, as officially announced by JAMB.
- No restrictions on course of study or institution (both public and private universities/polytechnics are eligible).
- Scholarship continues until graduation, provided academic performance remains strong.
